Banksy's Grafitti Art

Girl on a Stool

Girl on a Stool

Banksy regularly uses props in his graffiti, but on this occasion he used a broken wall to form part of the work. The piece was created by Banksy on a visit to New Orleans in 2008 shortly after Hurricane Katrina.

Banky’s creative mind shines through on his graffiti of ‘Girl on a Stool’. The image shows a young girl standing on a stool seeming to be very distressed and her hand up to her face. When you cast your eye down to the ground to see what she is looking at you will find a small rat looking back up at her. What show’s Banky’s creative flare is that the rat is based on the shape of the decaying plaster on a red brick wall. Similar to work we’ve seen from Banksy before, he is utilizing the landscape around him and perhaps this brick wall sparked the idea of the graffiti - he could see the rat in his mind based on the shape of the plaster. This piece was created on a visit to New Orleans in 2008 however unfortunately now the graffiti has been destroyed.
